Canada Goose, White Clay Creek, and Box Elders

This photo shows a Canada Goose in the creek at White Clay Creek State Park in Delaware. The foliage in the foreground is that from a Box Elder, Acer negundo. Note the pale whitish green stems and light yellowish-green leaves, which are mostly in sets of three leaflets, and which branch opposite from the stems. The box elder is a species of maple; it likes bright light and thus likes the area along the creek here where it gets ample light.
