The Core Values Behind Cazort.net:
I strive to have a sense of purpose and deeper guiding principles behind everything that I do, and Cazort.net is no exception. I do not always do the best job of sticking to my core values, but these are the values I do my best to live out both in my life and through this website:
- Respect for all people. Respect means different things to different people; to me, it means embracing and living out the belief that all people have self-worth, regardless of who they are, what they believe, and what they do. This includes people who commit evil acts.
- Sustainability. I tend to make choices and form my values based on the long-term approach. This does not exclude living in the moment--having fun is important--but it definitely shapes the way I look at virtually everything, from culture to economics to how to spend my spare time. For more of my perspective on what I think sustainability is, please visit my page on sustainability.
- Questioning. I generally think that critical thought and self-reflection is a good thing. Accordingly, I welcome questions, comments, and criticism on all topics on this page, so long as the dialogue stays respectful and constructive (which go hand-in-hand). Also, you will find that many of my articles and pages on this site draw into question various mainstream beliefs and attitudes.
A lot of other values and beliefs, such as my views on religion, flow naturally from these values. For example, I see honesty as an essential part of respect, both self-respect and respecting others, so while it is a very important value for me, I do not list it here.
Similarly, most of my stances on political issues, which you can read about on my political platform, flow from a process of continually questioning, using sustainability as a core guiding principle.
