This was the first extensive flight of a wild turkey that I have ever witnessed; previously I have only seen them fly brief distances, close to the ground. I was lucky enough to be able to capture the flight in this photo. This picture was taken at the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, in Philadelphia, PA, across from the Philadelphia airport. The turkey flew the whole way across the water, an impressive distance; it was a fast and powerful flyer, and flew from a perch fairly high in one tree to a perch high in another tree on the other side of the water.
