Cardinal Plum, Sliced in album fruit
Aug 2nd, 2011, by Alex Zorach
This photo shows a sliced cardinal plum. This plum resembles a Cardinal (the bird) both in color and shape: the bright red color of the skin is very similar to the color of the male Cardinal bird, and the pointed shape of this plum suggests the cardinal's crest.
I found this to be an absolutely delightful plum, one of my favorite types for eating. The cardinal plum has an extremely juicy, soft, sweet flesh, absolutely bursting with flavor. The skin is tangy, but the interior flesh is candy-like and has floral and honey qualities. The flesh separates from the pit very easily. Really, really good.
