Dry rooibos leaf, small, red twigs and stems and leaves looking almost like mulch

This picture shows red rooibos, also called South African red tea, not to be confused with Chinese "Red tea" (which refers to what westerners know of as "black tea"). Rooibos is not a true tea, but rather, is a kind of herbal tea. Just as black tea is available in different varieties, and the tea plant can be processed differently to yield green tea, rooibos can be processed differently to yield green rooibos.

This particular (red) rooibos was from Wegmans supermarket, which has a surprisingly good selection of loose-leaf teas. You can read my review of Wegmans rooibos on RateTea.
