Bonaparte's Gulls on the Delaware River

Apr 27th, 2011, by Alex Zorach
I photographed these two Bonaparte's gulls during the April heron survey in Delaware City, DE. In-depth study of the field marks of these gulls is important, as occasionally, a little gull will be present in a larger flock of Bonaparte's gulls.
Note the pink legs, dark ear spot contrasting sharply with a light color on the crown. Bill is dark but shows some reddish color.
