A scissor-tailed flycatcher, a kingbird-like bird with a very long tail, perched among fall foliage

Nov 17th, 2013, by Alex Zorach

This photo shows a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher which I photographed in Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia. I did not locate this bird.

This bird has a range in the central US, extending north into Arkansas and southern Nebraska.

This bird is very easy to identify; it is in the same genus as Kingbirds, Tyrannus and has overall kingbird-like features, but has a very long deeply forked tail which fans out in a scissor-like shape in flight.
