A fiddle-leaf fig, as a houseplant, on a sunny windowsill

Oct 17th, 2011, by Alex Zorach

This photo shows a fiddle-leaf fig, ficus lyrata, named Jerome, on my windowsill in sunlight.

This plant has grown considerably since I bought it about three months ago; you can see a picture of this same plant shortly after I bought it. I've found it very easy to grow. It has remained extremely healthy and vibrant, growing quickly, and not losing any leaves. The subsequent leaves seem to be larger than the older ones. The plant uses up water very quickly but does not seem to mind if it goes without water for a little while.
