A black vulture, walking towards the camera, on mostly dead grass

Mar 5th, 2011, by Alex Zorach

This photo shows a black vulture, walking towards the camera, on a lawn in winter with mostly dead grass. This photo was taken in Bryn Athyn, PA, on the grounds of the Bryn Athyn Cathedral.

Black vultures are strikingly black in color, contrasting with the Turkey Vulture, a dark but more brownish vulture that is the more common of the two vultures in the region where this photo was taken.

This photo shows the black vulture's face, beak, and feet clearly...the other field-mark of this species, the white pattern on the wing, is not visible in this picture.
