This photo of a male American Robin was taken in Kells Park, in Newark, Delaware. You can identify the bird as male by the bold, vibrant red color of the breast (the female is slightly more muted), and the blackish head, darker in color than its slate-colored back (the females have a more similar color of head and back). Keep in mind that there is much individual variation in the plumage coloration of this common and abundant species.
