Alexander Lucas Pear: in album food

This photo shows an Alexander Lucas pear. I had never heard of this variety before I saw it for sale at the Mariposa Co-Op in West Philadelphia. I tend to get excited about trying new varieties of produce, and so I bought one and was eager to try it.
It did not leave a particularly strong impression on me. I have seen these pears described as being similar to a D'Anjou pear, and I agree more or less with this analysis. However, I think, comparing to other pears I have eaten, this pear was not as pleasing as as a good-quality D'Anjou.
