SEPTA Route 11 Bus (Substituting for Trolley) in album Philadelphia

In Albums: Philadelphia transit

Empty bus with doors open, next to a wide sidewalk terrace with no people, trees in the background

This photo shows a sight that will look very normal to an untrained eye, but very unusual to someone experienced with SEPTA is West Philly: this is a SEPTA Route 11 bus. Route 11 is normally a trolley route, but occasionally, when there is construction or something blocking part of the route on the street, a bus is substituted for the trolley.

This bus is waiting at the subway-surface trolley portal for passengers to transfer from the trolleys coming out of the portal, and it will then drive the remainder of Route 11, turn around, pick up passengers, and drop them back at this portal.

In the rear of this photo, behind the bus, is the entrance to Woodlands cemetery. In case you're curious, you can view the unobstructed gate to Woodlands cemetery in another photo I took from this same spot on an earlier day.

Also of interest (at least to me) on the bus is the advertisement for a search engine optimization company, 1seo.com. I tend to have rather negative impressions of companies that sell search engine optimization services; they often tend to be shady outfits. It seemed a bit strange that one was advertising on SEPTA too, that is not the sort of place I usually see such services advertised. All other things being equal though, I'd think more favorably of a company if it were advertising on public transit.
