Cazort.net Science:

Science is the study of the world through a process of observation, theoretical explanation, and experimental verification of theory. Science derives its successes from abstraction and generalization: the ultimate goal of science is to create explanations of the world that are accurate, yet simple enough that they can be useful.

Strengths of Science: Because of the rigor of the scientific method, most of the conclusions reached through scientific investigation are true. When science reaches false conclusions, they are usually temporary. Science is generally marked by steady progress--it is almost unheard of in history for science to "revert" to an earlier and less accurate state of knowledge once it has progressed to a new one.

Weaknesses of Science: Science tends to be better at answering specific questions than about determining what questions to ask. While science is built on a rigorous framework for determining the truth of a given hypothesis or theory, science lacks a similarly rigorous framework for guiding the direction of research, and for exposing (and evaluating the truth of) underlining assumptions of a more philosophical nature that influence the direction of science. Often, the direction of science can be dictated by political and economic forces in such a way that ultimately hinders the advancement of human knowledge.

In addition, the strong truthfulness of science can be potentially very dangerous if we extend scientific lines of reasoning beyond their intended scope: an association to science can give the appearance of greater truthfulness to ideas which are not really scientific (and often, not really true). Much popular press coverage of scientific articles is sensationalistic and can be misleading or outright wrong. Also, many people take scientific concepts and apply them outside of context, for example, people looking at Darwin's theory of evolution, and extending it into a proscriptive moral system--what is called "Social Darwinism".
