My Squidoo Lenses
I publish writings, photos, and other types of material on a large number of different websites, in addition to on this site. One of the places that I publish material is Squidoo. Squidoo is an interesting and very flexible site; you can read my review of squidoo if you want to get my opinion on what the site is good for and how it compares to other free publishing platforms.
My two most popular lenses (pages) on Squidoo:
Here I highlight two of my most popular lenses, using two different measures of popularity: traffic, and squidlikes. Hopefully, this will give people an idea of which sorts of pages become popular on squidoo, and why.
- Tea vs Coffee - Caffeine, Health, Cost, Acidity, and Benefits - By far my most popular lens, this page consistently draws much more traffic than any of my other lenses; in fact, it draws more traffic than the next-up 5 lenses combined! While I think this is a pretty good page, I also think its success is due to the fact that it is written on a topic on which people frequently type related questions into search engines. Most of its traffic comes from google search. It also receives a small amount of local traffic from squidoo. As of writing this, this lens has the second-highest number of squidlikes of any of my lenses.
- Squidoo Tagging - Choosing Squidoo Tags - This lens has the highest number of squidlikes of any of my lenses, 31 as of writing this (and still increasing). This page receives some traffic, but not much, from google. It receives a roughly equal amount of traffic from within squidoo. The overall level of traffic is low. This page demonstrates that squidlikes / squidoo ratings do not guarantee, and do not always correspond to sustained traffic.
The difference between these two lenses in terms of squidlikes and traffic makes sense if you think about it. The page on Squidoo tagging appeals to Squidoo users, so it is more likely to be discovered locally by other people who publish on Squidoo, while they are searching for guidance or tips on how to use the site. Because they are users, they are more likely to thumbs-up the page. The page about tea and coffee, on the other hand, appeals to a broader audience; it thus draws more traffic from google, but since most of these users are just generic users and not people who publish on Squidoo, it gets a proportionally much lower rate of squidlikes, per amount of traffic.
My other lenses on Squidoo:
This is not a complete list:
- Fruit Pictures & Photographs - A page highlighting my pictures of fruit, in many ways echoing my fruit photo album on this site.
- Varieties of Tea: Black, Green, Oolong, and Others - This is a general page about different varieties of tea, which is linked to a number of sub-pages that go into more depth about green tea, black tea, and other types of tea.
- Why Drink Loose-Leaf Tea? - A page explaining why I prefer and recommend loose-leaf tea over tea bags.
